Our culture pressures us to be busy. Jesus wants to give us rest. We can experience Jesus more if we set aside some time each week to rest and fellowship with Him. By surrendering a time of contemplation before God, we are renewed physically, mentally, and spiritually. It's a glimpse of eternity.

The temporal things of life will eventually fail. By fixing our eyes on Christ, we're able to be renewed in the unseen things that are eternal. He set the example, by extending grace, choosing a path of vulnerability, and seeking the highest interest of others. That's what is pleasing to God: not power plays, but shepherding hearts.

Listening to God is critical to becoming fervent for serving the Lord. It comes by 1) Reading and praying through the Bible, 2) Walking in the Spirit, 3) Inserting yourself into Christian community. If we want spiritual renewal, we must not selectively hear & obey God.

When we are broken or discouraged, we may find it hard to pray, especially when answers don't come right away. As we study the story of Hannah, we can be encouraged. Brokenness is a yielded heart open before God, emptied of pride and bitterness. We can rediscover God's love, mercy and forgiveness.

Mankind is in search of paradise and peace. The death of Jesus on the cross occurred for our sake, yet it was the resurrection that proved the truth and power of Christ. We can walk today in newness of life, because of that resurrection power. We find paradise in Him.

We tend to put God in boxes, and forget the mystery of God. That can affect our prayer life. His mysteries are beyond our understanding. After we let God out of our boxes, we become freer in prayer. Our light will stay dim if we don't commit ourselves to ambition in our prayers. The lesson from the passage in Acts opens up endless possibilities for a praying church.

In order to experience spiritual renewal, we need to take time to talk with God, not just to Him. As we see in the Lord's Prayer, that involves prayers of gratitude, and of lamenting, as well as petitions and intercessions. Be open with Him. Bring all that you have to God.

If we are to experience a life of renewal, we need to be involved in the discipline of prayer. The power of prayer does not reside in the words that we speak or in the rituals we follow, but in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Allow the Spirit of Jesus to move in you as you worship God and intercede for others.
