(12-5-21) The Peace of Jesus - Pastor Daniel Nelms

Isaiah 9:6-7

During this Christmas season, we are reminded that Jesus is the Prince of Peace, the representation of peace. This peace means completeness, that all is as it should be. We first look at scriptures that speak of the coming age when He will bring total peace to this world, as God had designed it. We then see how we are to be peacemakers, setting an example of what will come.

Romans 5:1-5

As we begin the Advent series, "Good News in Troubled Times", we look at instances of hope in scripture. We see in Genesis that, despite man's exile from the Garden, God was still accessible. Later, Jesus brought the hope of divine justice. Because justice was poured out on Jesus, we have grace and forgiveness. And finally, because of the presence of the Holy Spirit, we have hope and the assurance that God will make everything right.

Ephesians 5:15-6:9

We are not our own, but we belong to God. Jesus is our reference point for living. It involves yielding to the will or needs of others. In these passages, we see that roadmap: submission to the Holy Spirit, mutual submission to one another, and application in our marriage, our parenting, and our workplace.

Before baptizing individuals in the service, we look at the historical and spiritual aspects of water baptism. We see that it is more than symbolic of Christ's death and resurrection. The Spirit of God empowers us to put aside the old ways of sin, and to walk in the new life in Christ.

Ephesians 5:1-14

We are called to live in the image of Christ. It's a life of love, thinking more of others than of ourselves, and avoiding immoral, impure and selfish acts. This can only be accomplished by asking the Holy Spirit to fill us and guide us daily.

Ephesians 4:17-32

Paul has shared what our calling is as Christians, and how we should walk worthy of that calling. In this passage of his letter to the Ephesians, he addresses the characteristics of our old life, and the qualities that should be manifest in our new life in Christ. We need to be transformed as individuals and as a community.

Ephesians 4:1-16

God has called the Church to share the Gospel of Jesus. He has given us gifts to help accomplish that, but He also expects us to exhibit love, humility, patience and unity. As we unite around the basics of the Gospel, we become mature and effective witnesses of that Good News.

Ephesians 3

The Good News is that Jesus Christ shed His blood for our sake, so that we all can share together in His promises, when we trust in that sacrifice. As Paul tells of his calling to share this Gospel to the world, he challenges us to do the same, telling the world about God's amazing love and mercy.

Ephesians 2:11-22

The Gospel is a call to radical living. Since we are reconciled to God through Christ, we should actively seek reconciliation in areas of our life. As we live out the Good News of Jesus, we can see the breaking down of walls of hostility between us and others.
