After Solomon's reign in Israel, the nation was divided between two kings: Jeroboam in Israel in the North, and Rehoboam in Judah in the South. We study 1 Kings 12-14, and learn of their decisions and the consequences. We learn from their bad examples of what can happen when we fail to seek and follow God's direction. As we look at the Parable of the Good Samaritan, we see that the man's action went beyond simple compassion. He willingly took on the burdens of someone else. It cost him time and finances, and he was willing to get his hands dirty to care for him. Compassion can also have an emotional toll, but Jesus made it clear that there are eternal rewards.

Are you free of other people's opinion of you, or your opinion of yourself? There's a way of life that allows Jesus and His acceptance and love for us to provide the freedom to no longer live for the opinion of others, but only as faithful servants and stewards of Jesus. As we live with that freedom, we discover the spiritual and life-altering power of the Kingdom of God in our own lives.

John 15:9-17
We begin looking at the Biblical vision of people being together with God. God created us to fellowship with Him, but desires to see us loving others also. To Jesus, friendship means being willing to lay down our lives for others. That doesn't mean simply accepting their "authentic self", but being willing to minister to their true needs.
