We tend to put God in boxes, and forget the mystery of God. That can affect our prayer life. His mysteries are beyond our understanding. After we let God out of our boxes, we become freer in prayer. The power of prayer does not reside in the words that we speak or in the rituals we follow, but in the person and work of Jesus Christ. As we look at the ministry of Jesus, we see times when people were healed and renewed because of their faith, and times when people walked away empty because they lacked faith. Do you believe He can renew you? He's calling you to be closer to Him, and is knocking on your heart's door. Come into His presence with thanksgiving and faith. Be active in seeking spiritual maturity and renewal. Don't settle for less.

In order to experience spiritual renewal, we need to focus on Jesus, not Jesus+. In a world of temporary things, it's only the Word and work of the Lord that stands in permanence. Some things that can veil the work of God are 1) competition with worldly promotions, 2) personality driven ministry, 3) attaching the Gospel to political ideologies. The health of a church is measured by the depth of its desire for Jesus. That brings the hope of renewal.

As we continue to study the issues of life, we are reminded that striving for wealth is meaningless, since it is temporary. The love of money drives us away from loving God. God intended for mankind to work, but to do it as a gift from God. Serving God and others, instead of wealth, is what brings joy and eternal meaning in life.

As we continue the study of Ecclesiastes, we see the author pointing out that lives of oppression, envy, and radical individualism are all meaningless. He then points out that God's intention is for us to be together with Him and with one another. We then see how the early church sought to follow Jesus in a broken world, and are challenged to pray that our church will follow their example.
